Training Your Dog and Becoming More Spiritual

Training Your Dog and Becoming More Spiritual

I bet you clicked on this article just because you were curious how in the world these two things go together. How could dog training and spirituality possibly be in the same breath? Think of all the patience, the struggles, and finally the love and gratitude that comes with training and owning a dog. There’s your answer.

You can really start pulling a lot of parallels between dog training and building your spiritual side. We are going to cover a few of these including: patience, struggles, loyalty, love, and gratitude. I think you will see how owning a dog can bring you more in tune with your spiritual side and maybe even shine some light on your personal struggles you have had with this subject in the past or present.

The Struggle

If you haven’t owned a dog yet, you probably have heard of your friends or family’s struggles with training. Having a puppy or adopting a new dog can be a serious trial in your life. Between the destruction and insubordination, it’s enough to make a person frustrated.

I don’t know about you, but that sounds an awful lot like a struggle with your religion. Aren’t there times where you have struggled to trust that your spiritual plan is the right plan for you? Haven’t you gotten frustrated or even questioned your faith before?

Struggling with your dog and struggling with your faith are very similar. Keeping your cool and trusting there is going to be an end to the struggle are great advice for both dog training and your faith.

“I can do all this through him who gives me strength” Philippians 4:13

Learning Patience

Patience is a virtue. We all know that, but that doesn’t mean we practice it. If you own a dog, you know how much patience you need. Often times, in our fast paced, over-stimulated, harsh society, patience is at an all time low.

You have to learn patience with a dog if you want to train them right. Finding patience deep within yourself in the most trying of times can really help you acknowledge a spiritual presence. You could not possibly possess patience without his help.

Throughout the process of training your dog and dealing with all the mishaps that accompany that, a spiritual presence may help you contain your frustration or anger. He is there to help you keep your patience even in the most stressful situations. You need only ask for that help.

“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12

Fierce Loyalty

Loyalty is something dogs are renowned for. It’s a huge reason people buy dogs in the first place. People can really hurt you emotionally and mentally if they are unloyal. Even a dog that is not treated well, will be loyal to their owner.

This alone should teach us to have that same loyalty with who we believe in. It can be difficult to remain loyal to him when you are dealt a bad deck of cards. If you have a week where everything seems to go wrong, you can question your faith.

Lucky for you, whoever you choose to believe in, stays fiercely loyal, even more so than your dog, even through your trials and tribulations. In fact, he may even be most present then. Your dog acts in a similar fashion. I know for me, that my dog is especially present if I am in pain, sick, or emotional. They can sense that and are there to comfort you just as your spiritual side is always there to comfort you.

Unconditional Love

Unconditional love is something that human beings crave. Dogs don’t need it but they certainly adore the attention and love you give them. They do need time and energy, which in a fashion, is a form of love.

Dog’s will unconditionally love you. They will be there for you even when you are frustrated with them. They will be there for you when you are happy to be with them. The bottom line is, they are going to love you through thick and thin.

Whoever or whatever you believe in is the same way. Since you were created in your mother’s womb, they have loved you unconditionally. Sometimes it’s easy to forget we have the unconditional love from him, but it’s always there. He doesn’t waver or falter in his love towards you. You can also show your love towards them by spoiling them with a cozy dog bed.

Your dog’s heart works the same way. They don’t love you more some days than others. Just look at the way they wag their tail every time you walk in the door. It doesn’t matter if you were gone for 30 seconds to start your car or a week vacation. Their love for you will never falter.

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” John 15:12

Extreme Depths of Gratitude

Gratitude is something you may be hearing people talk about more and more. In our busy lives, it is really easy to take a lot for granted. It’s easy to be flustered with paying bills and not to recognize that we are lucky to have bills to pay. We are lucky just to be alive!

With a dog, you learn a whole new level of gratitude. They are so incredibly grateful for you. Their depth of gratitude is unmatched. You are their sole provider of everything they need. Just the look in their face when they see you should be enough for you to realize this.

Through being grateful for your dog, you may realize your gratitude towards who you believe in. You may realize just how lucky you are to be living your cozy life with your best furry buddy by your side. Gratitude is something we all need to work on. Your spiritual side can help you with that and so can your pooch.

The Take Home Message

While you may have been confused upon approaching this article, I bet you saw quickly how much building your spiritual side and dog training go hand in hand. Who you believe in is ever present in our lives. He might have brought that new puppy or adopted dog into your life for a reason. Perhaps it was to teach you a lesson or maybe it was more.

Maybe whoever you believe in brought that unconditional love into your life because you needed it and the dog needed it too. Dogs will be your faithful servants just as you should be to who you believe in. They will be forever grateful to you, just as you should be with who you believe in.

You will learn patience and pull it out of the deep depths of yourself if you need to through who you believe in. Your dog will learn patience with you as you put more trust in them. Their loyalty knows no bounds just as you should be loyal with who you believe in as he is with you.

Finally, the struggle you feel and go through is only a test. Who you believe in will help you through and teach you about yourself along the way. Your dog and yourself will learn through the training experience. Whoever you believe in will teach you all the lessons you need to know and stand by you through the hard times.
